Ball sort is a simple puzzle: a row of glass tubes holds coloured balls in a jumble, and you can only move the top ball of a tube, onto a ball of the same colour or into an empty tube. The aim is to end with each tube holding one colour. PlayBallSort offers it in the browser with no download, account or payment, and with controls built for phones as well as desktops.

Beside its levels there is a daily challenge: one board a day, the same for everyone, built from the date. The daily board is marked hard, with seven colours and two spare tubes, so it is a good test of planning. The game counts your moves and your time, and lets you undo, ask for a hint, reset, or add an extra tube when you are stuck.

When you finish, the share text gives your moves, your time and a link that opens the exact same board, so a friend can try to beat you on equal terms.

2. Tap a tube to pick up its top ball.
3. Tap another tube to drop it onto a ball of the same colour or into an empty tube.
4. Keep going until every non-empty tube holds one colour.

Tips

• Keep one tube empty for as long as you can; it is your working space.
• Finish colours that are nearly complete early, to free up tubes.
• Avoid moving the same ball back and forth, which only adds moves.
• Use a hint before adding a tube if you want a cleaner result.
