Aquaticdle

Aquaticdle round with 0 of 6 attempts used, the first clue about a grazing mammal and a search bar over an underwater background

Aquaticdle hides one marine, aquatic or semiaquatic mammal each day, from seals and sea lions to otters, whales and dolphins. You start with one clue and get another after every wrong guess, with six tries in all. It is free in the browser, with an archive of past days and a library of the species.

About Aquaticdle

Aquaticdle is a small daily guessing game about mammals that live in or around water. Its pool includes seals, sea lions, sea otters, whales, dolphins and more, and each day one of them is the answer for every player. The species changes at midnight UTC, and a timer shows when the next one arrives.

The round opens with a single clue, such as how the animal feeds. You type a guess, choosing from the names the search bar offers, and each miss adds a clue. The clues cover the animal's appearance, behaviour, conservation status, range and place in culture, and the game also shows details such as family and range as you go. You have six attempts.

An archive lets you pick a past date and play its species, and a species library lists the animals in the game. It suits players who know their marine life, or who want to learn a few new species, in a couple of minutes a day.

How to play Aquaticdle

  1. Read the first clue about the day's mammal.
  2. Type an animal's name in the search bar and pick it from the list.
  3. After a wrong guess, read the next clue and try again.
  4. Name the animal within six attempts, then wait for the next species at midnight UTC.

Tips

  • Feeding clues narrow things fast: a grazer points to manatees and dugongs, a filter feeder to baleen whales.
  • Browse the species library to learn which animals are in the pool.
  • Use the archive to play past days if you want more practice.
