Fishdle on Tackle Village

Fishdle screen with a black fish silhouette above empty letter slots

Fishdle is a daily fish identification game from the angling site Tackle Village. You see the outline of a fish and type its name into the letter boxes; hints help if you are stuck, but each one costs half a star from a top score of five. A new fish comes out every day.

About Fishdle

Fishdle was made by a keen angler at Tackle Village, a fishing advice site, and describes itself as being like Worldle but for fish. Each day the site serves one fish, from popular sport species to oddities of the deep sea, shown as a black silhouette with blank letter slots for its name.

Guess right with no hints and you earn five stars. Each hint you take, such as more of the fish's profile, costs half a star. After you solve it, the game shows a description of the fish, and you can share your star rating. The site says some fish are deliberately tough, meant to test even expert anglers.

The daily fish comes from the site's own server, so everyone gets the same one. The game is free and runs in the browser on the Tackle Village page. It suits anglers and nature fans who know their bass from their barracuda.

How to play Fishdle

  1. Look at today's fish silhouette and the number of letter slots.
  2. Type the fish's name and submit your guess.
  3. Take a hint if you are stuck; each one costs half a star.
  4. Solve it to read a profile of the fish.
  5. Share your star rating.

Tips

  • Study the fin shapes and tail first; they separate families quickly.
  • The letter count narrows things down, so count the slots before guessing.
  • Think beyond freshwater game fish; deep-sea and saltwater species turn up too.
  • Take hints one at a time; a single clue is often enough.
