Anything Grid

A 3x3 grid where any person, place or thing in the world can fill a square.

Every day: One handmade 3x3 grid a day, the same for everyone, with three row and three column categories; fill each cell with anything that fits both. Past grids are in an archive. New puzzle: Midnight Eastern Time: the About page says the grid resets at midnight, and the game takes the date in New York time.

Anything Grid, a 3x3 daily trivia grid

Anything Grid is a daily 3x3 trivia grid with no fixed topic. Each cell sits under a row and a column category, such as Historical and Change, and any answer that fits both counts. Answers score by how much the world looks them up, so an obscure pick scores lower, and lower is better.

About Anything Grid

Anything Grid uses the row and column format of the sports grids without a fixed subject. Each day's grid has three row categories and three column categories, and every cell is filled with anything at all that fits both: a person, an animal, an event, an object. The How to Play page's example for Historical and Change accepts the French Revolution, a halfpenny or a bathing machine.

Scoring follows how well known your answer is, measured by how many page views it got that month. Answers fall into seven tiers, from Obscure, under one point, through Niche, Deep Cut, Notable, Mainstream and A-List up to Universal, over a thousand. Your score is the sum of the nine cells and lower is better, while an empty cell costs 1,000 points. You can chase deep cuts or simply fill the grid with things you know.

When the grid is complete you can open each cell to see the most popular and the most niche answers other players gave, and the average score per cell. A free account keeps streaks and stats across devices, and the archive holds earlier grids back to February 2026. The game is free with ads; a Premium subscription removes them and shows every answer submitted plus your full history.

How to play Anything Grid

  1. Open Anything Grid and read the three row and three column categories.
  2. Click a cell and search for something that fits both its row and its column.
  3. Pick your answer from the search results to place it in the cell.
  4. Fill all nine cells, aiming for less famous answers to keep your score low.
  5. Submit the grid and look at the most popular and most niche answers for each cell.
  6. Share your grid or open the archive to play a past day.

Tips

  • Read each category loosely; the game's own example uses wordplay, such as a bathing machine as a place to get changed.
  • An empty cell costs 1,000 points, so a famous answer still beats leaving one blank.
  • Fill the cells you find easy first, then spend your time hunting deep cuts for the rest.
  • After you play, check the niche answers; they are the best source of ideas for the next day.

Questions

How is Anything Grid scored?

Each answer scores by how many page views it had that month. Obscure answers score under a point and universal ones over a thousand. Lower totals are better, and an empty cell counts as 1,000.

When does a new grid come out?

Once a day at midnight. The game uses the Eastern Time date, so the grid changes at midnight in New York.

Can I play old grids?

Yes. The archive lists past grids in a list and a calendar.

Do I need an account?

No. A free account adds streaks and stats across devices; Premium removes ads and adds answer history.
