Niche is a free daily trivia grid from Mind Loft. Each cell needs an answer that fits both its row and its column, and you have twelve guesses for nine cells. The subject changes with the day of the week, and after each correct answer you see how many other players chose the same one.

About Niche (Mind Loft)

Niche is the trivia grid on Mind Loft, a free site of daily browser games. It works like the sports grids that made the format popular: three row categories, three column categories, and nine cells where they meet. Each cell wants one answer that fits both, such as a country that is landlocked and borders France.

The subject, which Mind Loft calls the universe, follows the day of the week: Countries on Sunday, US States on Monday, Animals on Tuesday, Movies on Wednesday, TV Shows on Thursday, Pro Sports Teams on Friday and Musicians on Saturday. On the Saturday we looked, the columns were a solo act, a solo female artist and a band or group, and the rows included acts whose name starts with D.

You get twelve guesses for the nine cells. Every attempt spends one, wrong fits included, and an answer can only be used once on the board. The suggestion list only offers names from the day's universe. The score is the number of cells filled, but after each correct answer you also see what share of the day's players picked the same one, so an answer few people found is the one to share.

A new grid goes up at midnight US Eastern Time, and the Sunday Edition is a 4x4 grid on Countries. Mind Loft's other trivia dailies include Deep, Listed and Redact.

Tips

  • Start with the tightest cell, where few answers fit both categories, before easier cells use up a name you need.
  • Keep the obvious answers for cells with no alternative and use less known ones elsewhere for a better rarity share.
  • Learn the weekday rotation so you know whether you face movies, animals or sports teams before you open it.
  • Read the category wording closely; small rules such as "The" not counting for a starting letter are spelled out on the header.
