Daily nonograms: a new picture logic puzzle every day

A nonogram, also called picross or griddlers, gives you numbers beside each row and column that tell you the runs of filled squares in that line. Solve them all and a picture appears. These sites publish a new one every day, the same for everyone.

The games

The daily nonograms differ mostly in size and difficulty. For a quick start, Nonodle and Dailygram offer small grids (Dailygram has a 5x5 and a 10x10 each day, both solvable without guessing), and Inkwell Games' Mosaic grows from 5x5 on Monday to 15x15 by Sunday, finishing with a hand-made pixel-art picture.

For a bigger puzzle, Puzzle Nonograms (puzzle-nonograms.com) and PuzzleMadness publish daily grids in several sizes, and Pixelogic, one of the oldest nonogram sites, adds two human-made dailies to a large archive. NonoDaily and Nonogram.com also reveal a small picture each day, and BrainBashers' Nonogrids and Greatest Games' Nonogram give a plain logic grid.

There are twists too: Pipcross from Puzzmallow plays a nonogram with dice, placing each die so its pips match the run clues, and Piczle's collection adds colour nonograms.

If you are new to the format, start with Dailygram's 5x5 or the Monday Mosaic and learn the overlap trick (in a line of 10 with a clue of 8, the middle six squares must be filled). Then move up to the larger PuzzleMadness or Pixelogic grids.

Questions

Is a nonogram the same as picross?

Yes. Nonogram, picross, griddlers and hanjie are names for the same puzzle: fill squares to match the run clues on each row and column.

Do daily nonograms need guessing?

Good ones do not. Dailygram, for example, says every puzzle can be solved without guessing.

Which daily nonogram is easiest?

Small grids such as Dailygram's 5x5 or Nonodle, and the Monday puzzle of Inkwell's Mosaic.

Are they free?

Yes, all the dailies listed here can be played free.
