Wortflip is Der Tagesspiegel's daily German word puzzle. Five columns of letters sit side by side; slide them up and down to spell real words in the highlighted row. Each word you find darkens its letters, and the puzzle is done when every letter is dark.

About Wortflip (Tagesspiegel)

Wortflip is built from columns of letters. One row across the middle is highlighted, and you slide each column up or down to change which letter sits in that row. When the row spells a real German word, the letters that made it turn dark.

Each day's puzzle hides a handful of five-letter words, four on 2 October 2026, and every letter in the columns belongs to one of them. Finding one word usually means moving several columns at once, and the last words come from the letters you have not yet used.

The game runs on the Puzzlr platform with Tagesspiegel's other daily puzzles, Variablo, Rasterix and Zahlenfix. It suits German speakers who like anagram and word search puzzles and want something short each day.

How to play Wortflip (Tagesspiegel)

  2. Drag a letter column up or down to change the letter in the highlighted row.
  3. Line up the columns until the row spells a real word; its letters turn dark.
  4. Keep sliding to find the other hidden words.
  5. Finish when every letter in the columns is dark.

Tips

  • Start with the first column; a word's opening letter narrows the rest.
  • Look for common German endings such as -EN and -ER in the last columns.
  • Letters that are still light must all belong to the words you have not found yet.
  • Try changing a single column from a word you just found; the next word often shares letters.
