About Ўордлі (Belarusian Wordle)

Ўордлі (a Belarusian spelling of Wordle) calls itself a daily word game in Belarusian ("штодзённая гульня ў словы"). It is a close copy of the original Wordle's layout, translated into Belarusian, and has been running since January 2022.

You type five-letter Belarusian words on a Cyrillic keyboard that includes the Belarusian letters Ў, І and the apostrophe. After each guess the tiles turn green, yellow or grey to show which letters are in the right place, which are in the word elsewhere and which are missing. The rules add that the digraphs дж and дз count as two letters and the apostrophe as one, and that the answer can be any part of speech but always in its dictionary form: a noun in the nominative, a verb in the infinitive. Letters can repeat. In hard mode, every clue you reveal must be used in your next guesses.

The word is picked by date, counting from 16 January 2022, so everyone gets the same one and it changes at midnight. The about section credits the original game to Josh Wardle and says the word lists were built with dictionaries from the Belarusian electronic encyclopedia, the Belarusian Bookshelf (Беларуская палічка) and a grammatical database of the Belarusian language.

It suits Belarusian speakers and learners who want a daily puzzle in Belarusian rather than Russian.

How to play Ўордлі (Belarusian Wordle)

1. Open ololophilolo.github.io/wordle-by.
2. Type a five-letter Belarusian word and press Enter.
3. Read the tiles: green for the right letter in the right place, yellow for a letter that is in the word elsewhere, grey for a letter not in the word.
4. Find the word within six tries and come back the next day for a new one.

Tips

• Ў (short u) and І are common in Belarusian words; try them early.
• Belarusian spelling writes many words as they sound, so an unstressed о often appears as а.
• Turn on hard mode in the settings if you want an extra challenge.
