The Wordchute card: letters falling from a chute into a 4x4 board with the word PLAY highlighted

Wordchute is a daily word strategy game. The day's 32 letters drop into a 4x4 board from a chute above, and you link touching letters into words of three or more. Each word clears its tiles and lets the next letters fall, so every word you play changes what you can make next.

About Wordchute

Wordchute gives everyone the same daily drop: 32 letter tiles waiting in a chute above a 4 by 4 board. The board starts full, and you can see the letters lined up to fall next.

You make a word by tapping, or dragging through, three or more touching letters, and diagonals count. When you play the word its tiles vanish and the letters above fall into the gaps. The aim is to clear all 32 tiles. Every daily board can be fully cleared, but only if you plan ahead, because a careless word can strand awkward letters at the bottom.

Past boards are available if you want more, and the rules and a how-to guide are on the site.

It suits players who like word searches with a strategy layer, closer to a falling-block puzzle than a straight vocabulary test.

How to play Wordchute

  1. Look at the 4x4 board and the letters waiting in the chute.
  2. Tap or drag through three or more touching letters; diagonals count.
  3. Release to play the word: its tiles vanish and the letters above fall.
  4. Plan words so the letters that fall next can also be used.
  5. Clear all 32 tiles to win.

Tips

  • Watch the chute: the next letters decide which words will be possible.
  • Use awkward letters like Q, X or Z early while there are vowels around them.
  • Short words are fine; clearing everything matters more than long words.
