The Chicago Sun-Times games page carries a crossword, a Chicago Mini, sudoku, Word Flower, a Chicago jigsaw and this word search, all in Amuse Labs' PuzzleMe player. The word search is the gentlest of the set: the page's own line for it is simply find the hidden words.

Every day has its own title and theme. On October 5, 2026 it was Across The Map, a set of geographic features such as Island; the day before, Poker Face, about classic parlour games. The 15x15 grid hides 15 words, listed beside it, and a counter at the top shows how many you have found. The puzzle opens on an info panel with the title and a Start button, a timer runs while you play, and Assist and Print are in the toolbar.

It is free on chicago.suntimes.com, funded by reader donations rather than a subscription. New puzzles go up at midnight Central time. It suits anyone who wants a short, calm daily puzzle with a theme to guess at.

How to play Word Search (Chicago Sun-Times)

  1. Open Word Search on the Sun-Times games page and press Start on the info panel.
  2. Read the day's title and the word list beside the grid.
  3. Find a word in the grid and select its letters from first to last to mark it.
  4. Watch the counter at the top climb as each listed word is found.
  5. Find all 15 words to finish and stop the timer.

Tips

  • Look for unusual letters such as Q, X or Z first; they narrow down where a word can be.
  • Once the easy words are gone, read the grid in every direction, not only left to right.
  • Use the theme in the title to guess the longer words before you hunt for them.
