Word Peaks

Guess the word in six tries, told only whether each letter is too early or too late in the alphabet.

Every day: One numbered five-letter word a day, the same for everyone, to find in six guesses using clues about whether each letter comes earlier or later in the alphabet. New puzzle: Midnight local time (the day number is counted on the player's own clock).

Word Peaks is a Wordle-style daily game with a different kind of clue. After each guess, every tile says whether your letter comes before or after the right letter in the alphabet, and the keyboard narrows the range for each position. You have six tries at the day's word.

About Word Peaks

Word Peaks is a daily word guessing game made by vegeta897 and published as an open source project on GitHub. You have six tries to find a hidden five-letter word, as in Wordle, but the clues work differently. Instead of telling you which letters are in the word, each tile tells you whether your letter is correct, too early in the alphabet (closer to A) or too late (closer to Z).

That turns each position into a small search between two bounds. The game shows the remaining range of possible letters on the tile and on the keyboard as you type, so a good guess is one that cuts each range roughly in half while still being a real word. Hard mode and other options, such as an alphabetical keyboard, high contrast tiles and the OpenDyslexic font, are in the settings.

The daily word is numbered from 25 February 2022 and changes at midnight on your own clock. After a daily game you can share a text or image of your result, along with a small landscape the game draws from your guesses, or switch to Random mode for unlimited extra words. Statistics, which count only daily games, track your streaks, guess times and fastest game, and can be exported and imported.

The game is free, runs in the browser, and has been translated into French, Dutch, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Turkish, German and Polish, though the words themselves stay English.

How to play Word Peaks

  1. Open Word Peaks and type any five-letter word.
  2. Read each tile: correct, too early in the alphabet, or too late.
  3. Use the letter ranges shown on the tiles and keyboard to choose a word that narrows every position.
  4. Find the word within six guesses.
  5. Share your result or the drawn landscape, then try Random mode for more.

Tips

  • Aim for letters near the middle of each remaining range, such as M or N at the start.
  • Vowels have fixed spots in the alphabet, so a range from F to N in a vowel position nearly always means I.
  • Watch the keyboard as you type: it shows the range of letters still possible for the position you are on.
  • Hard mode makes you stay inside the known ranges, which is good practice for efficient guesses.

Questions

How is Word Peaks different from Wordle?

Clues say whether each letter is too early or too late in the alphabet, not whether it is somewhere in the word.

Can I play more than once a day?

Yes. Random mode gives unlimited extra words, though only daily games count in the stats.
