Twixtle
Turn the start word into the end word in four moves: one anagram, one verb form, one homophone and one compound.
Every day: One start word and one end word a day, the same for everyone, joined by exactly four moves. New puzzle: Midnight in your own time zone.

Twixtle (formerly Twixt) gives you a start word and an end word each day. You get from one to the other in exactly four steps, using each move type once: an anagram, another form of the same verb, a homophone and a compound-word partner. There is one solution, and you score best by solving fast without revealing the move order.
About Twixtle
Twixtle is a daily word puzzle that used to be called Twixt; the old address now forwards to the new name. Each puzzle is a start word and an end word with four empty steps between them.
There are four kinds of move and you must use each exactly once, in any order. An anagram rearranges all the letters (heart to earth). A verb move switches to another form of the same verb (write to wrote). A homophone swaps to a word that sounds the same (sea to see). A compound move jumps to a word that joins the current one into a single closed compound (watch to tower, from watchtower). No word may appear twice, and the last move must land exactly on the end word.
Every puzzle starts in Perfect mode with the order of move types hidden. You can tap a hidden slot to reveal its type, but that costs the Perfect badge and some points; beat the day's median time to earn a Sharp. There is an archive, a bonus puzzle and leagues you can start with friends.
It suits players who like word ladders and wordplay, and it rewards thinking in sounds and compounds as well as spelling.
How to play Twixtle
- Read today's start word and end word.
- Type the next word in the chain using one of the four move types.
- Use each move type (anagram, verb, homophone, compound) exactly once.
- Undo a step if the chain stops working.
- Land on the end word with your fourth move.
Tips
- Work backwards from the end word as well as forwards; the last step is often easier to spot.
- If one word is a verb form like -ed or -s, the verb move probably sits next to it.
- Only reveal a move type if you are stuck; each reveal costs points.
