Find three words that use each of the day's nine letters exactly twice.

Every day: One numbered grid of nine letters a day, the same for every player (A C D D E E H I T on 7 October 2026), to be covered by three words that use each letter box exactly twice. A timer runs, extra solutions are counted, and past days stay playable from a calendar. New puzzle: Once a day, a new numbered grid; earlier dates stay in the calendar.

The Twice Thrice board: a three by three grid of letters A C D D E E H I T, an entry box, a timer, word and solution counts, and Delete, Scramble and Enter

Twice Thrice (Decatur Games) gives you nine letters a day in a three by three grid. You build three English words so that every letter box is used exactly twice, in two different words. After the first solution you can keep finding other three-word sets, each one counted.

About Twice Thrice (Decatur Games)

Twice Thrice is one of three daily word puzzles from Decatur Games, along with Step Words and Word Weft. Each day brings a new numbered grid of nine letter boxes; a repeated letter, such as the two Ds and two Es on 7 October 2026, gets a box of its own.

The goal is a set of three valid words in which every box appears exactly twice, each time in a different word. A single word cannot use the same box twice, and no word may be entered more than once. That makes 18 letters to place across three words, so the lengths have to add up and every letter has to be planned for.

You type words on the keyboard or click letters in the grid, then press Enter. A word you no longer want can be removed with the cross beside it to free its letters, Clear All empties the board, and Scramble reshuffles the grid for a new view. A timer runs from the start, and counters show how many words you have entered and how many full solutions you have found. Words that were part of an earlier solution are shown in purple, and you can keep looking for new sets after solving.

There is no sign-in needed. A calendar under Play Historical Puzzle opens earlier days.

Tips

  • Count first: the three words must hold 18 letters between them, for example three words of six letters, or 5, 6 and 7.
  • Rare letters such as H or V need two different words each, so pick words for them before the easy vowels.
  • Since no word may use a box twice, a double letter in a word needs two boxes of that letter in the grid.
  • Scramble often: a new arrangement of the grid can show words you did not see in the old one.

Questions

Can a word use the same letter twice?

Only if the grid has two boxes of that letter. A single word may not use the same box twice.

Is there one right answer?

No. Any three valid words that use every box exactly twice solve it, and the game counts each extra solution you find.

Do I need an account?

No. The daily puzzle and past days can be played without signing in.
