Every day: A new set of eight to twelve letters each day, the same for everyone; find two words that between them use every letter, with as few extra letters as you can, and compare your length on a daily leaderboard. New puzzle: 9:00 GMT, per the countdown in the game's code.
Cobble gives you a handful of awkward letters each day, often with a Q, X or Z among them. You type two words that together contain every one of those letters, and your score is how many letters the two words add up to: the fewer, the better.
About Cobble
Cobble is a small daily word puzzle on wilf.live. Each day shows a row of blue letters, usually eight to twelve of them and often an unfriendly mix such as two H's, an M and a Q. Your job is to find two words that between them contain all of those letters.
The words may use other letters too, but every extra letter counts against you. Your score is the total length of your two words, and the day's puzzle sets thresholds for perfect, great, good and solid answers. You can submit as many pairs as you like and keep improving, so a day's game is often a first rough answer followed by shorter and shorter tries.
Signing in with Google puts your best answer on the daily leaderboard, tracks a weekly table and streaks, and lets you reveal the day's best solutions, after which you cannot submit any more for that day. Past puzzles are open in an archive.
It suits players who like Letter Boxed or Spelling Bee but want a short, open-ended challenge where there is always a better answer to chase.
How to play Cobble
- Look at the day's blue letters at the top of the screen.
- Type a word, a space, and a second word that together use every blue letter.
- Press space after the second word to submit the pair.
- See your total length and how it rates against the day's perfect, great, good and solid marks.
- Submit shorter pairs to improve your score, then share it or check the leaderboard.
Tips
- Start with the rarest letters: find a word that holds the Q, X or Z first, then fit the rest around it.
- Doubled letters can sit in one word, such as a word with two H's, which saves extra letters.
- A long first try is fine; you can keep submitting, and only your best counts.
- Do not reveal the solutions until you are done, since revealing ends your day's submissions.
