Từ Khóa
Wordle in Vietnamese, with tones, digraphs and spaces on a six-tile board.
Every day: One hidden Vietnamese word a day, the same for every player on the same date, spelled across six tiles where letter clusters and toned vowels each take one tile; eight guesses with coloured-tile feedback. New puzzle: Midnight, local time.

Từ Khóa (keyword) is a free Vietnamese version of Wordle. Each day there is one hidden Vietnamese word, usually of two syllables, the same for everyone, spelled across six tiles in which a toned vowel, a consonant cluster such as ngh or the space between syllables each fill one tile. You get eight guesses.
About Từ Khóa
Từ Khóa adapts Wordle to Vietnamese, a language of short syllables marked with tones. A Vietnamese word is usually two or more syllables written apart, so the answer takes the space between them as one of its tiles, and the board is six tiles wide with eight rows of guesses. The keyboard holds every letter with every tone mark, from á to ỹ, as its own key, and the consonant clusters ch, gh, gi, kh, ng, ngh, nh, ph, qu, th and tr as single keys and single tiles.
The colours work as in Wordle: green when a tile is in the right place, yellow when it is in the word but elsewhere, grey when it is not there, and a misplaced space shows up yellow like a letter. Because a vowel with the wrong tone is a different tile, the game is as much about tones as spelling. The words come from the Vietnamese dictionary edited by Professor Hoàng Phê and from the tratu.soha.vn dictionary, according to its About panel, which credits the adaptation to VNCT and the code to Aidan Pine's AnyLanguage-Wordle fork of Hannah Park's Wordle.
The answer is chosen by counting days from 13 February 2022, so everyone gets the same word on the same date, and a new one comes at midnight in your own time zone. It runs in the browser with no account.
How to play Từ Khóa
- Open Từ Khóa and type a Vietnamese word across the six tiles, using the space key between syllables.
- Use one key for each toned vowel and for clusters such as ng or th.
- Press Hoàn thành to submit the guess.
- Read the tiles: green is in the right place, yellow is in the word elsewhere, grey is not in the word.
- Find the word in eight tries or fewer.
Tips
- A vowel with a different tone mark is a different tile: a grey à says nothing about á.
- Try two-syllable words first; the space usually takes one of the six tiles.
- Clusters such as ngh, nh and th count as one tile, so the word may be longer on paper than six letters.
