The Bee Jar

The Bee Jar puzzle #82: a honeycomb of hexagonal letter tiles with bonus tiles marked x2 and +5, beside global progress counters

The Bee Jar is a daily word hunt on a board of hexagonal letter tiles. You trace paths through touching tiles to make words of three letters or more, revisiting tiles if your route comes back to them, and bonus tiles multiply or add to your score. Every word counts towards the hive's live leaderboard.

About The Bee Jar

The Bee Jar lays out each day's letters in a honeycomb, a few dozen hexagonal tiles in a shape that changes from day to day. The aim is to harvest as many words as you can by tracing a connected path of three or more touching tiles.

Unlike Boggle, a route may return to a tile it has already used, which opens up longer words and repeated letters. Some tiles carry bonuses, such as a doubled score or extra points. A timer starts only when you press Start hive.

Every accepted word updates the hive's leaderboard straight away, and the page also shows what all players have found together that day, words found, points earned and time spent, against shared goals. Results can be shared without giving away any letters.

A new numbered hive arrives each day with a countdown to the next one. It is free in the browser, and signing in keeps your profile.

How to play The Bee Jar

  1. Press Start hive to show today's board and start the timer.
  2. Trace a path through touching hexagons to spell a word of three or more letters.
  3. Press Add word to bank it; you may revisit tiles along the route.
  4. Aim for bonus tiles to raise your score.
  5. Keep harvesting words and check your place on the leaderboard.

Tips

  • Look for common endings such as -ER, -ED and -ING among neighbouring tiles.
  • Because tiles can be revisited, try words with repeated letters on a loop.
  • Route long words through the bonus tiles.
