Telegraph Codewords are daily grids where every square holds a number standing for one letter. You start with a few letters given and work out the rest from the words they make. There are Regular and Tough grids for subscribers, plus a free Mini Codewords each day.
About Telegraph Codewords
Codewords is a classic newspaper puzzle and one of the daily games in Telegraph Puzzles. The grid looks like a crossword with no clues: every square holds a number from 1 to 26, each number stands for one letter, and a few letters are given at the start. Filling in a letter fills it everywhere its number appears, so each deduction spreads across the grid.
The Telegraph publishes two levels, Codewords Regular and Codewords Tough, for subscribers, and a free Mini Codewords every day for everyone. The app keeps an archive, streaks and achievements.
It suits players who like logic as much as vocabulary, since the solve is about spotting letter patterns rather than answering clues.
How to play Telegraph Codewords
- Open Codewords in Telegraph Puzzles and look at the letters already given.
- Find words where only one or two letters are missing and work them out.
- Enter each letter against its number; it fills every square with that number.
- Keep going until all 26 numbers are cracked.

Tips
- Look for common patterns such as double letters and endings like -ING.
