About Sudoku (The Indian Express)
The Indian Express, the Delhi-based English-language national daily, runs a daily sudoku in three strengths on its Puzzles and Games pages. Each level has its own page (sudoku-easy, sudoku-medium, sudoku-hard), and each day's grid is dated and filed under its own address, such as ie-sudoku-easy-20261006 for 6 October 2026.
The puzzles are classic 9x9 sudoku: fill every row, column and 3x3 box with the digits 1 to 9, starting from the given numbers. The Easy grid has a generous number of givens and falls to plain scanning; Medium and Hard need more candidate work.
They play in the PuzzleMe player, with a timer, a number pad, pencil marks, a Show candidates option for one cell or the whole grid, undo and redo, a Hint button and print. Each page also lists the previous two weeks of grids at that level, beside the paper's daily crossword and mini crossword. All of them are part of Express Premium: without a subscription the page shows a padlock and a Subscribe for full access prompt where the grid would be.
Three levels a day make it a fit for a household that solves together or for a solver who likes to step up through the week's grids.
How to play Sudoku (The Indian Express)
- Open Sudoku on The Indian Express and sign in with an Express Premium subscription.
- Pick Easy, Medium or Hard, then today's dated grid or an earlier one from the list.
- Select an empty cell and type or tap a digit so that each row, column and 3x3 box holds 1 to 9 once.
- Use the pencil to note candidates in a cell, or Show candidates for help on harder grids.
- Fill the last cell to finish; Hint and Assist are there if you get stuck.
Tips
- On Easy, scan each digit across the bands of three boxes: most cells fall to that alone.
- On Medium and Hard, pencil in candidates early and look for pairs that lock two cells in a box.
- Missed a day? Each level's page lists about two weeks of earlier grids.
