Mini Sudoku on SCMP GamesPast days

The SCMP Mini Sudoku game logo: the word SUDOKU set in a three-by-three grid of white and lime cells with a pencil and the word mini, over its tagline.

Mini Sudoku is the South China Morning Post's daily small sudoku on SCMP Games. You fill a 6x6 grid with the numbers 1 to 6 so each appears once in every row, column and 2x3 box, with a notes mode for candidates. Each grid is dated, the same for every reader, and past days are in an archive.

About Mini Sudoku (South China Morning Post)

The South China Morning Post, Hong Kong's English-language daily, publishes Mini Sudoku in its SCMP Games section beside its crossword and its Word Search word game. It is sudoku cut down to 6x6: six rows, six columns and six boxes of two by three cells, each to hold the numbers 1 to 6 once.

The game's how-to suggests starting with numbers that can only fit in one spot, and a note function lets you jot candidates into a cell. Reset clears the grid and Save keeps your progress.

Each puzzle is filed under its date, so everyone solving that day has the same grid, and earlier puzzles sit in an archive. The paper says full access to SCMP Games comes with its app or a subscription.

At this size a grid takes a few minutes, which suits a coffee-break solve or a first step towards full 9x9 sudoku.
