About Sudoku du Monde

Sudoku du Monde is the daily sudoku of the French newspaper Le Monde, played online on its Jeux platform. The grids are made by Yan Georget, and a new one goes up each day, the same for everyone.

It is standard sudoku: a nine-by-nine grid split into nine three-by-three boxes, with some digits already filled in. You complete the grid so that every row, every column and every three-by-three box contains each digit from 1 to 9 exactly once. The grids are graded through the week, easiest on Monday and getting harder as the days go on.

You play in the browser. Pick a cell and enter a digit; a timer starts automatically on your first entry. You can verify a single cell or a line if you are unsure, reveal a cell, a line, a column or the whole grid, undo and redo your moves or start over, and print a grid to solve on paper. The rules are shown beside the grid as a reminder.

The daily grid and the full archive come with a Le Monde Jeux subscription, though you can start a sample grid to try it. It suits sudoku solvers who want a reliable graded daily and readers of Le Monde who already use the Jeux platform.

How to play Sudoku du Monde

  1. Open Sudoku du Monde on the Le Monde Jeux site to load the day's grid.
  2. Select a cell and enter a digit from 1 to 9; the timer starts on your first entry.
  3. Fill the grid so each digit appears once in every row, every column and every three-by-three box.
  4. Check a cell or a line if you are unsure, or reveal part of the grid if you are stuck.
  5. Finish the grid; use undo, redo or restart as needed, and come back for a harder grid later in the week.

Tips

  • Start with Monday's grids and work through the week as the difficulty rises.
  • Scan each row, column and box for the digit that has only one place left to go.
  • Use the check-a-cell option sparingly to confirm a doubtful entry rather than revealing it.
  • Note candidate digits in tricky boxes before committing, and lean on undo to test ideas.
