Squeezy on a phone: yellow letter tiles beside a stack of words with gaps, next to the Squeezy lemon logo

Squeezy is a free daily word puzzle by Jeff Chen and Jim Horne. You insert yellow letter tiles into the middle of words to make new words, and the letters you added, read from top to bottom, spell out a hidden theme.

About Squeezy

Squeezy is a daily word game created by Jeff Chen and Jim Horne, and it now sits in the Hey, Good Game family of daily puzzles alongside Wordplete, Pair Down and Mini Crossword. Each puzzle is numbered and dated; puzzle 976 came out on 3 October 2026, and the archive goes back through all of them.

The board shows a stack of words with gaps between their letters and a column of yellow letter tiles. You pick a tile and drop it into a gap inside a word, never at either end, so that a new word appears: Y turns SPAS into SPAYS, E turns GUST into GUEST. Every word gets exactly one tile.

The twist is that the letters you insert, read from top to bottom, spell a word, phrase or name. Spotting that theme early helps with the last stubborn words. Easy Squeezy is a single quick round; Main Squeezy runs three rounds that get harder, from easy to peasy to squeezy. Breezy Mode gives you exactly the tiles you need, while Wheezy Mode adds a decoy tile.

It suits crossword solvers and anagram fans who like a small aha at the end. A free account adds stats across devices, a leaderboard and the full archive.

How to play Squeezy

  1. Choose Easy Squeezy (one round) or Main Squeezy (three rounds).
  2. Click a yellow letter tile.
  3. Click a green space inside a word to insert the tile there.
  4. Make sure each insertion leaves a real word; tiles never go at the start or end.
  5. Place every tile, then read the inserted letters top to bottom to reveal the theme.

Tips

  • Try each tile in the shortest words first; they have the fewest places to go.
  • Once a few letters of the theme show, guess the rest and use it to place the remaining tiles.
  • In Wheezy Mode, one tile is a decoy, so do not force every tile in.
