Splitle board with five rows of coloured letter tiles, ending with the halves SCIEN and TIFIC solved

Splitle is a free Wordle variant where the answer is a ten-letter word split into two halves. You guess five-letter chunks that must be the first or second half of some real ten-letter word, and once you find one half of the answer, your clues carry over to the other.

About Splitle

Splitle is a browser word game by a developer who goes by Toir, who also makes the daily games Fusele, Shiftle and Threadle. It keeps the green, yellow and grey tiles of Wordle but stretches the answer to ten letters and cuts it in two. A new daily word goes live at midnight UTC and is the same for everyone.

Every guess is five letters, and it does not need to be a word on its own: it only has to be the first or second half of a valid ten-letter word. ITION counts, because words like DEMOLITION end that way. The tiles then show which letters are in the hidden half and where.

The daily answer is itself one half of a ten-letter word. When you hit it, your last guess is re-coloured against the other half, so you start the second part with some clues already in hand. In the game's own example, guessing KILOM correctly leaves a yellow I that points to ETRIC, making KILOMETRIC.

That two-stage structure means you think about word endings and beginnings (prefixes, suffixes and common chunks) rather than whole words, which makes it feel different from most Wordle spin-offs. An unlimited mode is there for extra games, and keyboard shortcuts help on PC. It suits experienced Wordle players looking for a longer, stranger puzzle.

How to play Splitle

  1. Type five letters that form the first or second half of a real ten-letter word.
  2. Read the tile colours: green is right letter and spot, yellow is in the answer elsewhere, grey is not in it.
  3. Keep guessing until you find the hidden half.
  4. Use the carried-over clues to guess the other half and complete the ten-letter word.

Tips

  • Open with common chunks like ITION, ATION or INTER, which are valid halves of many words.
  • Think in prefixes and suffixes rather than whole words.
  • After you find the first half, list ten-letter words that start or end with it before guessing again.
