Diffle

A Wordle spin-off where the answer can be any length and every letter you type counts against you.

Every day: One hidden word a day, the same for every player, whose length is not given (anywhere up to ten letters). Guesses are unlimited; your score is the number of words and letters you used. New puzzle: Midnight, your local time.

Diffle is a free daily word game in the Wordle mould with one change: you are not told how long the hidden word is. You guess words of any length, the hints show which letters appear and in what order, and you try to find the word using as few letters as possible. A new word comes each day.

About Diffle

Diffle was made by the independent developer hedalu244 and first ran on GitHub Pages. In July 2026 it moved to diffle.com, which is now looked after by the small studio Hey, Good Game; the old address only points to the new one, and stats and streaks carried over.

The daily puzzle hides one English word that can be from one to ten letters long. You type any valid word of any length and press Enter. Grey letters are not in the answer. Coloured letters are in the answer in the order shown, and letters that sit next to each other in the answer are shown joined. A squared left or right edge on your guess means the answer starts or ends the same way.

There is no limit on the number of guesses. Instead the game counts how many words and how many letters you used before you found the answer, so short probing guesses are cheap and long hunches are expensive. That makes it feel closer to a logic puzzle than a race against six rows.

Besides the daily word there is an Unlimited mode for extra practice. The site is free, runs in any browser and needs no account; logging in is optional.

How to play Diffle

  1. Open diffle.com and stay on the Daily tab.
  2. Type any valid English word, of any length, and press Enter.
  3. Read the hints: grey letters are absent, coloured letters are in the answer in that order, joined letters sit together in the answer, and squared edges mark a matching first or last letter.
  4. Use the order and joins to build the next guess, adding prefixes and suffixes around the fragments you found.
  5. Keep guessing until the word is solved; your result is the number of words and letters used, which you can share.

Tips

  • Open with a five or six letter word full of common letters, such as RATIO or TEARS, to sample a lot cheaply.
  • Short three letter probes cost little and can settle whether a letter belongs.
  • Treat a run of joined letters as a word fragment and try common endings around it like -ING, -ER or -LE.
  • Watch the squared edges: knowing the first or last letter cuts the field quickly.
