ScoreWords is a daily word grid puzzle. You place the day's 24 letters, one at a time, onto a 5x5 grid, trying to form valid words across and down that add up to the highest total, before filling the final wildcard cell.

About ScoreWords

ScoreWords gives every player the same letters each day and a 5 by 5 grid to fill. The letters come one at a time and you decide where each one goes, building words along the rows and columns as you go. Twenty-four letters fill twenty-four cells, and the last cell is a wildcard that you choose to finish the board.

When the grid is full, the valid words in it are scored, and the aim is the highest total you can manage. Because you cannot move a letter once it is placed, the game is about planning: leaving room for likely words and not boxing yourself in with awkward letters.

It is free in the browser.

It suits fans of word-placement games like Scrabble and grid puzzles that reward forward planning.

How to play ScoreWords

  1. Look at the next letter of the day.
  2. Place it in any empty cell of the 5x5 grid.
  3. Keep placing letters to form words across and down.
  4. Use the final wildcard cell to finish a word.
  5. See your score from all the valid words in the grid.

Tips

  • Reserve rows for common endings like -ER or -ED.
  • Put awkward letters in corners where they affect fewer words.
  • Plan the wildcard as the missing letter of your best word.
