Scooch's How to Play panel: two rows of grey letter tiles, A E E D L and M R S T Y, with the line Scooch the tiles to make today's words

Scooch is a free daily word puzzle. You get a pool of letter tiles laid out in rows, and you slide them around until the rows spell the day's hidden five-letter words. A new puzzle drops every day.

About Scooch

Scooch gives you ten letter tiles in two rows of five, such as A, E, E, D, L over M, R, S, T, Y in its own tutorial. The letters are all there; they are just in the wrong places. You scooch the tiles around the board until each row spells one of today's hidden words.

Because every letter has to be used and each row must be a real five-letter word, a tile that fits one word may be needed in the other, which is where the puzzle lies.

The game plays in the browser for free, opens with a short how-to-play walkthrough, and has a new puzzle every day for everyone.

It suits players who like anagrams and tile puzzles and want something that takes a few minutes.

Tips

  • Place the rare letters first; they have the fewest homes.
  • Count vowels: each word needs at least one, so split them between rows.
  • Try common endings such as -ER, -ED or -Y to anchor a word.
