Pundaze

Pundaze for October 6: a cartoon band of an eraser on guitar, a tyre on drums and a shoe sole at the microphone, above two rows of empty letter boxes

Pundaze shows one drawing a day that acts out a pun, such as a pumpkin carved with the pi symbol for PUMPKIN PI. Blank boxes give the number of words and letters, you have three guesses, and a hint reveals any letter you choose. Afterwards you see how your guesses and hints compare with everyone else's.

About Pundaze

Pundaze is a daily visual pun puzzle. Each day's picture is a small cartoon scene that stands for a phrase, and the answer is spelled the way the picture shows it rather than the way the phrase is usually written. The example on the site is a pumpkin with the pi symbol carved into it: the answer is PUMPKIN PI, not PUMPKIN PIE.

Under the picture are rows of blank boxes, one row per word, so you know how many words there are and how long each one is. You have three guesses, and boxes turn green when the answer is right. Answers use U.S. spelling.

If you are stuck, press Hint and pick any box to reveal its letter. At the end the page explains the pun and shows global stats: the average guesses, the average hints and the solve rate.

A new picture arrives at midnight, a calendar opens past days, and you can set a reminder or share your result.

How to play Pundaze

  1. Look at the day's picture and think about what phrase it acts out.
  2. Count the boxes: they show the number of words and letters.
  3. Type your answer as the picture spells it and submit.
  4. Use a hint to reveal any letter if you need it.
  5. Solve within three guesses and compare your score with others.

Tips

  • Name everything in the picture out loud: the pun is usually in the plain names of the objects.
  • Remember the answer follows the picture's spelling, not the usual phrase.
  • Use the word lengths first: they rule out most phrases quickly.
