About Nearesto

Nearesto is a browser word game with a numbered secret word each day. Instead of coloured letters, it uses alphabetical order. You start between AAAAA at the top and ZZZZZ at the bottom, and each valid five-letter word you enter moves up or down: up if the secret word comes after it, down if it comes before. Your guess then becomes the new top or bottom boundary.

Two numbers beside the range show how far the secret word is from each boundary, as a percentage of the whole dictionary, and an orange dot marks where it sits between them. Letters that cannot produce a word inside the range are blocked on the keyboard. You have unlimited guesses, and you can give up to see the word.

A new word arrives at midnight local time. Past games are in a calendar archive, and you can also create your own game for friends. No account is needed, though signing in saves stats across devices.

It suits players who like Contexto-style hunting but prefer a clear, logical way of closing in.

How to play Nearesto

1. Open Nearesto and type any valid five-letter word.
2. See whether it moves up or down: the secret word comes after or before it.
3. Keep guessing words between the top and bottom boundaries, using the percentages and the dot to aim.
4. Close the range until you hit the secret word, then share your guess count.

Tips

• Open with a word from the middle of the alphabet, such as HOUSE, to split the dictionary.
• When one percentage is small, the answer is near that boundary, so guess close to it.
• Watch the blocked keys: they show which letters can no longer start a valid guess.
