Rate itFind the word of the day by asking only: before or after?
Every day: One numbered word of the day for everyone (Normal #1169 and Hard #139 on October 5, 2026); every guess narrows the alphabetical range the answer sits in. New puzzle: Daily (the site does not give a time).

alphaguess is a free daily word game in which each guess tells you only whether the day's word comes before or after it in the dictionary. You close in on the answer from both sides, in a Normal or a Hard puzzle, then compare your guesses with everyone's in the global stats.
About alphaguess
alphaguess hides one English word a day and gives you a single kind of clue. Type any word and the game files it above or below the answer, so the screen shows the closest word before and the closest word after; the gap between them is where the answer lives. It is a binary search played with a vocabulary, and the skill is in choosing words that split the remaining range in half.
There are two dailies, each numbered: Normal, which has run for more than a thousand days, and a newer Hard puzzle with a less common word. When you finish, the game shows your guess count and time with global stats for the day and a result to share. Streaks and stats are kept, and an optional email link signs you in without a password.
The game is free with ads, and a supporter subscription removes them. It is made by idle minutes. It suits word lovers who like a quick logical puzzle more than a letter-by-letter one, and players of Betweenle or A to Z Today.

Tips
- Open with a word from the middle of the alphabet, such as one starting with m, to halve the field at once.
- Once the range shares its first letters, think about the third and fourth letters rather than whole words.
- Common words are more likely answers on Normal; save rarer ones for Hard.
