LexiChain

Spell out the day's hidden word, one category answer per letter, against the clock.

Every day: One numbered chain a day with the same hidden root word for every player. You spell it out letter by letter, answering each letter with a word from the same category before its timer runs out, and share a spoiler-free grid. New puzzle: Once a day (the listing does not state the time).

LexiChain is a timed word recall game for iPhone and iPad. The daily chain gives every player the same hidden root word in a category, such as TOMATO in Vegetables, and you must name a vegetable for each of its letters in turn before each timer runs out. The daily is free and you can share your result without giving the word away.

About LexiChain

Each LexiChain round starts from a hidden root word in a category. Say the word is TOMATO and the category is Vegetables: you need a vegetable starting with T, then one with O, then M, and so on to the end, and each letter has its own countdown. Running out of time or passing costs a strike; too many strikes and the chain breaks. Correct answers score points, with bonuses for speed and for keeping a run of answers going.

The daily chain is numbered and the same for every player, so friends can compare scores. When you finish you can share a grid of green and red squares, one per letter, that keeps the word secret. If a letter beats you, the game shows a word that would have worked. The streak counts playing, not winning: playing the day's chain keeps it, whether or not the chain falls, and every seven days you bank a rest day that covers a missed one.

Outside the daily you can play any category at three difficulties: Relaxed (30 seconds a letter, repeats allowed, three strikes), Standard (20 seconds, no repeats, two strikes) and Expert (12 seconds, longer words, one strike). Nearby Duel lets two people in the same room race the same word over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth with no internet. Ten categories with over 1,100 words are free, including vegetables, fruits, animals, countries, sports and world cities; thirty more packs come with LexiChain Premium (yearly or lifetime) or as single purchases.

LexiChain is made by Ralf Koch and came out in June 2026. The word lists live on the device, it needs no account and plays offline.

How to play LexiChain

  1. Open the day's chain from the home screen to see its category.
  2. For each letter of the hidden word, type a word from that category starting with that letter.
  3. Answer before the letter's timer runs out; a timeout or pass costs a strike.
  4. Finish the word, or run out of strikes and see what would have worked.
  5. Share the green and red grid and come back for the next chain.

Tips

  • Have a few common answers ready for awkward letters like Q, X and Z in each category.
  • Speed earns bonus points, but a wrong guess does not cost a strike, so try a guess before passing.
  • On Standard every answer must be unique, so save the obvious word for a letter that needs it.
  • Practise a category in Solo Chain on Relaxed to build up your word list.
