Lexicogs in the Lex.Games app: seven clues above a grid of letter chunks

Lexicogs is Lex.Games' daily take on 7 Little Words. Seven clues share a theme, and each answer is built by joining two or more letter chunks from the grid below, each chunk used once. Solve them in any order against the clock; a lightbulb reveals an answer for a three-minute penalty.

About Lexicogs

Lexicogs is Lex Friedman's daily take on 7 Little Words, and the site says so openly. Each numbered puzzle has seven clues that share a theme. On 2 October 2026, puzzle #941, every clue was about chests: ____ chest (8 letters), Chest of ____ (7 letters), They protect the chest (4 letters), and so on.

Below the clues sits a grid of short letter chunks, such as TRE, URE and CON. Each answer is built by joining two or more chunks, every chunk is used exactly once, and when all seven answers are in place the grid is empty. You can solve the clues in any order, and the letter counts help you check whether a combination fits.

A timer runs while you play and can be paused. If you get stuck, the lightbulb fills in the next unsolved answer but adds three minutes to your time. Finished times go on that puzzle's leaderboard, and the share button copies an emoji line with your time. You can also make your own Lexicog puzzle for friends, and older puzzles are in the archive.

Lexicogs is free on the web and in the Lex.Games app for iPhone and iPad, alongside Conlextions, By A Vowel, Square Dance and the other Lex.Games dailies; an optional upgrade unlocks the PRO games. It suits players of 7 Little Words who want a themed set and a timed score.

How to play Lexicogs

  1. Open lex.games/lexicogs and read the seven clues and their letter counts; they share a theme.
  2. Tap chunks in the grid to assemble a word for any clue, in any order.
  3. When the chunks spell a correct answer, it locks in and those chunks are used up.
  4. Keep going until all seven answers are found and the grid is empty.
  5. If stuck, tap the lightbulb to reveal the next answer at a cost of three minutes, then share your time or check the leaderboard.

Tips

  • Start with the clue you are surest of; each answer you place removes chunks and narrows the rest.
  • Use the letter counts: a 10 letter answer needs several chunks, a 4 letter one usually just two.
  • Work out the theme early, since every answer ties back to it.
  • Avoid the lightbulb unless you are truly stuck; three minutes is a large penalty on a short puzzle.
