Letrerío is El Mundo's daily letters game, which the paper says is inspired by Spelling Bee. Each day brings a new set of letters and you form as many Spanish words from them as you can. It is free with ads, and a free registration keeps your progress.

About Letrerío (El Mundo)

Letrerío is El Mundo's Spanish take on Spelling Bee, and the paper says so on the page. Each day you get seven letters, one of them in the centre, and the aim is to make as many Spanish words from them as you can.

Every word must be at least three letters long and must use the centre letter. Letters can be repeated. Proper nouns, plurals and conjugated verbs are not accepted, so verbs only count in the infinitive. A word that uses all seven letters is a Superpalabra, the game's name for a pangram, and finding words lifts you up a ladder of levels shown as Tu Nivel, which also feeds your stats. If you give up, you can ask the game to reveal the solution.

Letrerío is free and runs in the browser after a short advert; a free El Mundo registration keeps your progress across devices. Past days stay in an archive, and the same games page links to Palabro, the crossword, a word search, memory and sudokus. It suits Spanish speakers who play Spelling Bee in English and want the same daily hunt in their own language.

How to play Letrerío (El Mundo)

  1. Open Letrerío on El Mundo's games page; the puzzle starts after a short advert.
  2. Look at the seven letters and note the centre one, which every word must contain.
  3. Type or tap words of three letters or more, repeating letters if you like.
  4. Watch your level rise as words are accepted, and hunt for a Superpalabra that uses all seven letters.
  5. Come back to the same puzzle during the day, or open an earlier one from the archive.

Tips

  • Try the infinitive of every verb you can make: conjugated forms are refused, infinitives count.
  • Look for common Spanish endings such as -ar, -er, -ción and -ero among the letters to find long words.
  • Remember plurals are not accepted, so do not add an S to a word you already have.
