About Lexi Reto (Clarín)

Lexi Reto is a daily letter puzzle in Spanish, played in the games section of the Argentine newspaper Clarín. The game comes from Quality Games, which also supplies it to other Spanish-language papers, so the same format shows up at El Comercio in Peru and ABC Color in Paraguay.

Each day you get seven letters arranged around a centre letter. Every word you find must be at least three letters long and must contain the centre letter; letters can be used more than once. Proper names and conjugated verbs do not count, though verbs in the infinitive do.

Short words score little and long ones score more, and a word that uses all seven letters, called a Heptacrack, earns a 10 point bonus. A day's puzzle can only be solved on that day; after midnight it closes and can only be looked at.

How to play Lexi Reto (Clarín)

1. Open Lexi Reto in Clarín's games section to see the day's seven letters.
2. Type or tap a word of three or more letters that includes the centre letter.
3. Submit it; valid words are added to your list and your score.
4. Keep finding words, aiming for one that uses all seven letters.
5. Come back the next day for a new set of letters, since each puzzle closes at midnight.

Tips

• Look for common Spanish endings such as -ar, -er, -ir and -ción that fit the letters; infinitives are allowed.
• Letters can repeat, so try doubling vowels and consonants the set allows.
• Hunt for the seven-letter word early: its bonus is worth several short words.
