Gubbins is a word game from Melbourne's Studio Folly. Letter tiles arrive at the bottom of the screen and you place them on an 8x8 grid, then swipe across words to clear them and score, while wildcard creatures called Gubbins help or hinder. One daily level is free each day.

About Gubbins

Gubbins was made by Studio Folly, an independent studio founded in Melbourne in 2020 by Jessica Shipard and Darcy Smith, and released worldwide in November 2023. Polygon called it Scrabble on acid.

Tiles come from a draw pile, sometimes one at a time and sometimes in groups, and you place them on an 8 by 8 board. Once letters form a word, you swipe across it to clear them and score. The twist is the Gubbins, kooky cartoon creatures that appear as wildcard modifiers, sometimes helping and sometimes wreaking havoc on the board.

The daily level is free, a game a day on the house with no ads, and each day you can collect a Gub; there are 30 to collect. Buying Unlimited Play adds unlimited games, extra modes and the backlog of past daily levels. It runs on iOS and Android.

It suits word game fans who want something stranger and more playful than a standard daily puzzle.
