Gemdle

Gemdle Daily #110, stone 1 of 5: a photo of a purple and green mineral specimen with the question Which crystal is this? and four answer buttons

Gemdle is a free daily guessing game for crystals, rocks and gemstones. Each numbered daily round shows five real specimen photos, one at a time, and asks which stone it is from four choices, then explains the colour, lustre and hardness clues that give it away.

About Gemdle

Gemdle is built for people who want to learn to recognise stones by what they can see. The daily round has five questions: a photo of a real specimen, many from Wikimedia Commons with their photographers credited, and four names to choose from, such as Ametrine, Stichtite, Watermelon Tourmaline and Iolite.

After each answer the game explains why it was right or wrong, pointing to observable traits: colour, lustre, hardness on the Mohs scale and crystal habit. A flame counter keeps your streak of days played, and you can share your score.

Beside the daily five there is an unlimited quiz, an identifier that ranks likely matches for a stone you own from the traits you can observe, and an A to Z guide of more than 250 stones with photos and properties. It sticks to physical properties rather than crystal-healing claims, and suits rockhounds, collectors and anyone curious about minerals.

How to play Gemdle

  1. Open Gemdle and start the Daily round.
  2. Look at the specimen photo and pick which of the four stones it is.
  3. Read why the answer is right, from its colour, lustre and hardness.
  4. Finish all five stones to keep your streak and share your score.

Tips

  • Lustre separates many look-alikes: glassy, metallic and waxy surfaces point to different minerals.
  • Use the colour pages between days to learn which stones come in which colours.
  • Unlimited mode is a good way to practise rarer stones.
