Forbidden 7 Classic: a word entry line, words, score and longest counters, thirteen blank tiles for the grail word and the day's forbidden letters D, F, G, L, O, T and W above a keyboard without them

Forbidden 7 is a free daily word game where seven letters of the alphabet are banned each day. You type real words using only the letters left, scoring points and climbing ranks, while a long hidden grail word waits to be found. Quick mode is a three-minute race to the grail; Classic is the full daily challenge.

About Forbidden 7

Forbidden 7 comes from Humdle Ltd, who also make the music game Humdle. Its idea is simple: each day seven letters are struck from the keyboard, shown in red under the word line, and every word you play has to avoid them.

In Classic you type words and press Enter. Each accepted word adds to your score, and a bar of ranks fills as you go, from Warming up onward. Below it a row of blank tiles shows the length of the day's grail word, for example a grail of 13 letters, and hints can reveal parts of it.

Quick mode is built for a short break: about three minutes and one big word, racing to reveal the grail. Both modes refresh every day, and the game keeps a daily streak and a trophy case of badges to collect.

It suits players who like open-ended word hunts such as Spelling Bee but want a different constraint: instead of seven letters you may use, seven you may not.

How to play Forbidden 7

  1. Open Forbidden 7 and choose Quick for a three-minute race or Classic for the full challenge.
  2. Note the day's seven forbidden letters shown in red under the word line.
  3. Type a real word that uses none of them and press Enter to score it.
  4. Keep adding words to climb the ranks on the score bar.
  5. Look for the grail word, whose length is shown by the blank tiles, and use hints if you get stuck.

Tips

  • Check which vowels are forbidden first; it decides which word families are open to you.
  • Once you find a stem that avoids the banned letters, try its other endings for more words.
  • Use the grail's letter count as a target: think of long words that avoid every banned letter.
