The Daily Cat board for 17 October 2026: a hex garden of 49 numbered tiles with green fence tiles and the cat near the centre

Daily Cat is a turn-based trap puzzle on a hex grid from Guessr Games. Each day everyone gets the same garden: you place one fence per turn, the cat answers with one step toward the edge, and you win by cutting off every route out. Fewer fences means a higher score, so players come back to beat the day's board more neatly.

About Daily Cat

Daily Cat is a browser puzzle on the Guessr Games site, built on the old trap-the-cat idea. The board is a garden of 49 numbered hexagon tiles with some fences already standing and a cat near the middle. You tap an empty tile to put down a fence, then the cat takes one step along a shortest path toward the edge of the board. If it reaches the edge, you lose; if every path out is cut off, you win, even if the cat still has room to walk inside its pen.

The daily challenge is one board shared by every player, and it changes at 00:00 UTC. Your score is 100 minus the number of fences you placed, and a loss scores 0. Signed-in players get one ranked attempt a day: the server replays every move, and only a first attempt made without showing the cat's route counts for the leaderboard. Progress on the day's board is kept in your browser, and you can play without an account.

What sets it apart from other trap-the-cat games is that the cat is predictable. It always takes a shortest route, and when two routes are equal it prefers the lower tile number, so a careful player can read ahead and plan an enclosure rather than react to random moves. Beyond the daily, there are three short guided lessons and a practice mode with six difficulties, including Expert, Master and Extreme boards with a limited fence budget, and practice supports undo.

It suits players who like short strategy puzzles with clear rules, and anyone who enjoyed the classic cat-trapping browser games and wants one fixed board a day to compare with friends.

How to play Daily Cat

  1. Open the game and press Meet today's cat to start the shared daily board.
  2. Tap an empty hexagon to place a fence on it.
  3. Watch the cat take one step along its shortest path toward the edge.
  4. Keep placing one fence per turn, building a wall ahead of the cat.
  5. Win by closing off every route to the edge; your score is 100 minus the fences you used.

Tips

  • Build your wall ahead of the cat instead of chasing it tile by tile.
  • Use the fences already standing in the garden as part of your enclosure.
  • An enclosed area wins even if the cat can still move inside it, so a loose pen is enough.
  • When two routes are the same length, the cat takes the one through the lower tile number, so you can predict its next step.
  • Sign in before starting if you want your daily result on the leaderboard, and avoid showing the route, which makes the result unranked.
