A Codenames Daily board of sixteen word cards with the clue AMBULANCE 3 and one agent found

Codenames Daily is a free browser version of the Daily Challenges from the Codenames app, launched by Czech Games Edition in June 2025. Each day you get four puzzles written by app players and chosen by the game's curators: a clue and a number, and a board of sixteen words to pick from. One wrong pick ends that puzzle, and your results can be copied and shared.

About Codenames Daily

Codenames Daily turns the party game Codenames into a short solo puzzle. Czech Games Edition, which publishes the board game, launched it in June 2025 as a free web version of the Daily Challenges in its Codenames app. In the board game you guess as a team from your spymaster's clue; here the spymaster is another player who wrote the clue in the app, and you are the one guessing.

Each puzzle is a grid of sixteen word cards with a clue underneath: one word and a number, such as AMBULANCE 3. The number is how many cards the clue points to. You double-tap a card to guess it. A right guess turns up a gold agent and you keep going; a wrong one turns up a civilian and that puzzle is over. Then you tap Next and move to the following board.

There are four puzzles a day, the same for everyone, picked by the game's curators from the many that app players have submitted. The set changes at midnight UTC, with a countdown on the page. When you finish, the game tells you what share of players beat the day's puzzles without a mistake, and Share results copies a text grid of your day for social media. The daily is also available in other languages, including German, French and Czech.

Compared with Connections, where you sort sixteen words into groups yourself, Codenames Daily hands you the link and asks you to read another person's mind. It is quick, and it suits people who like word association and the guessing side of Codenames, or who want to practise before a game night.

How to play Codenames Daily

  1. Open Codenames Daily and press Start playing.
  2. Read the clue below the grid: one word and a number that says how many cards it points to.
  3. Double-tap a word you think the clue means. A gold agent means you were right; keep going until you have found them all.
  4. If you pick a word the clue does not mean, a civilian appears and that puzzle ends.
  5. Tap Next to move on through all four of today's puzzles, then use Share results to copy your day.

Tips

  • Start with the word that fits the clue most plainly, and only take risks on the last pick.
  • Think about how a player would have chosen the clue to avoid the other words on the board: a word that fits but also fits a decoy is less likely to be meant.
  • Look at the number before guessing: a clue for 3 or 4 usually rests on a broader idea than a clue for 2.
  • The clue writers are app players, not professional setters, so common associations usually beat clever ones.
