Ask and Guess
Rate itAsk yes-or-no questions until you can name the day's mystery word in each of three categories.
Every day: Three mystery words a day, each in its own category drawn from six (on Oct 18, 2026: movies, foods and countries; on Oct 17: video games, movies and car brands), the same for every player, found by asking yes-or-no questions. New puzzle: Midnight UTC.

Ask and Guess is a twenty-questions style guessing game in the browser. Each day it sets three mystery words, each in its own category, with the categories changing from day to day among movies, foods, countries, video games, anime series and car brands. You narrow each word down with yes-or-no questions before you name it, and random words and online lobbies with friends fill the time between days.
About Ask and Guess
Ask and Guess turns the old parlour game of twenty questions into a daily puzzle. You pick one of the day's categories, type a yes-or-no question about the hidden word into a single box, and press Ask. The answer comes back below the box, and your questions pile up in a list you can read back as you close in.
The day has three challenges, each in a different category, and the set of categories changes from day to day. On October 17, 2026 they were video games, movies and car brands; on October 18 they were movies, foods and countries. The site has six categories in all: movies, foods, countries, video games, anime series and car brands. Everyone who plays on a given day gets the same three words, and a new set arrives at midnight UTC.
The answerer keeps no memory of your earlier questions, so each question needs to stand on its own: ask "Is it from Japan?" rather than "What about Japan?". Besides yes and no, it can answer usually, partly or it depends, and a question it cannot judge is answered with a request to rephrase and is not counted. When you think you know, you type your guess in the same box, such as "Is it pizza?".
The count of questions you needed is the score, and a Share challenge button sends the day's word to a friend. Beyond the daily three there are random words in any of the six categories, and an Online mode with public lobbies or a private lobby code to play with friends.
The game is free, shows no ads, and the daily words can be played without an account, after a quick human check in the browser before the first question. Signing in keeps your progress on an account. It suits players who like Twiggit or a game of Who Am I, and anyone with a broad general knowledge across films, food, places and games.
How to play Ask and Guess
- Open askandguess.com and choose one of the three Daily Challenges, such as Movies.
- Type a yes-or-no question about the hidden word in the box, starting broad, for example "Was it released before 2000?", and press Ask.
- Read the answer below the box: yes, no, or a qualified clue such as usually, partly or it depends.
- Put the property you mean in every question, because earlier questions are not remembered.

Tips
- Split the field in half with your first questions: decade, country of origin or genre narrow a film or game quickly.
- If the answer is be more specific, I can't tell or try rephrasing, the question did not count, so ask it again in plainer words.
- Short clues work as questions too, such as "made in Germany?" for a car brand.
