Wordfive
Word search meets sudoku: slot five letters back into the grid.
Every day: A Daily Puzzle each day, the same grid for everyone. Five five-letter words sit in a grid running across, down or diagonally, with one letter removed from each. You place the five removed letters back into the blank spaces, and those five letters themselves spell a sixth word. New puzzle: Once a day.

Wordfive gives you a grid holding five five-letter words, one letter missing from each. Below the grid are the five removed letters, which also spell a sixth word. You work out where each letter belongs so every word reads correctly across, down or diagonally. There is a shared Daily Puzzle plus endless new ones.
About Wordfive
Wordfive is a free word puzzle for the browser and for phones, described by its maker as a bit like word search meets sudoku. A grid holds five five-letter words placed horizontally, vertically or diagonally, and one letter has been taken out of each word.
The five removed letters are shown below the grid, and they are not random: together they spell a sixth five-letter word. Your job is to fit each loose letter back into the right blank space so all five grid words are complete again.
Alongside endless new puzzles you can play a Daily Puzzle, which is the same for everyone that day. The page offers a hint, a reset and a show-answer option, and there are free iOS and Android apps with extra stats and options.
It suits players who like word searches and deduction puzzles and want a short daily grid that rewards spotting words in several directions at once.
How to play Wordfive
- Look at the grid, which hides five five-letter words across, down or diagonally.
- Note the empty space in each word where a letter was removed.
- Take the five loose letters shown below the grid.
- Place each letter into the blank that completes its word.
- Finish so all five grid words read correctly and the loose letters spell the sixth word.
Tips
- Scan diagonals as well as rows and columns, since words can run any of those ways.
- Letters you place must still leave every other word solvable, so check crossings.
- Remember the five loose letters form a word, which can hint at what is missing.
