The Ball Grid
Fill a 3x3 grid with Premier League players who fit both the stat and the club for one season.
Every day: Two Premier League grids a day, the same for everyone: a Classic Grid scored on the rarity of your picks and a Rapid Fire grid against the clock, each a 3x3 board where every player must fit both the row and column for one chosen season. New puzzle: Midnight (the site says a fresh grid arrives at midnight but does not name the time zone).

The Ball Grid is a daily Premier League grid game. Each board is built on a single season: columns are clubs or club groups, rows are stats or traits such as 5+ goals or 3+ yellow cards, and every player you name must meet both within that season. The Classic Grid scores rare correct picks higher, and Rapid Fire times how fast you clear the board.
About The Ball Grid
The Ball Grid takes the sports grid format and narrows it to one Premier League season per board. That season is the whole world of the puzzle: a player only counts if they met the criteria in that season, so a striker's 20 goals from another year do nothing for you.
Columns are usually clubs, either by name (Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Tottenham and West Ham) or as groups like Big Six, Top Half or Bottom Half clubs. A player qualifies for a club if they made a Premier League appearance for it that season, so a January signing can fill two club columns. Rows cover goals and assists, cards, clean sheets, minutes played, position, height, age and nationality. Each player can be used once per grid.
There are two grids a day. In the Classic Grid you have unlimited time and wrong answers cost nothing; each correct answer scores from 20 to 100 points depending on how rarely other players picked it, so an obscure name is worth far more than the obvious one. Rapid Fire uses the same format against the clock: there is no rarity bonus, and every wrong answer adds a five-second penalty to your time.
Every past grid stays online with a page showing its categories, every valid player for each square, how often players got each square right and that day's top ten scores. Player data is compiled per season from public Premier League records, and each grid is checked before it goes live so that every square has a reasonable number of answers.
How to play The Ball Grid
- Open The Ball Grid and choose the Classic Grid or Rapid Fire.
- Read the season, the three club columns and the three stat rows.
- Search for a Premier League player who meets both the row and the column in that season, and place them in the square.
- Fill all nine squares; in Classic aim for rare picks, in Rapid Fire aim for speed without wrong answers.
- Share your score and come back for the next day's grids.
Tips
- In Classic, try the obscure answer first: wrong answers cost nothing, and a rare correct pick can score five times as much.
- Remember the single-season rule: check that the player hit the stat in the board's season, not in their career.
- Players who moved in January can count for two clubs on the same board.
- Browse the past grid pages to learn which squad players and seasons come up.
Questions
How is the Classic Grid scored?
Each correct answer scores from 20 to 100 points depending on how rare the pick is, and wrong answers cost nothing.
How does Rapid Fire work?
Same grid format against the clock, with no rarity scoring and a five-second penalty for every wrong answer.
Does a player have to meet both criteria in the same season?
Yes. Each board is built on one Premier League season, and only that season's figures count.
Can I see old grids?
Yes. Every past grid has a page with its valid answers, how often each square was solved and the top scores.
