Play Sõnuk

Sõnuk board in dark mode with six empty rows and an Estonian keyboard including Õ, Ä, Ö and Ü

Sõnuk is an Estonian copy of Wordle. Every midnight the site picks a new five-letter Estonian word, and you try to guess it in as few attempts as possible, up to six. The keyboard includes Õ, Ä, Ö and Ü, and the shared result is labelled with the day's date.

About Sõnuk

Sõnuk is a small Estonian word game that openly describes itself as a copy of Wordle. Its words come from the Estonian Language Resource Centre (Eesti Keeleressursside Keskus), and the author asks only for optional donations towards server costs.

The day's word is kept on the server rather than in the page, and each game is tied to the date: on 3 October 2026 the game was labelled 03.10.2026 with a timer to the next word at midnight Estonian time. You type a five-letter word and press Arva (guess); the tiles then show which letters are in the right place, which are in the word elsewhere, and which are missing.

The rules page points out an Estonian detail: a word can contain the same letter several times, as in the example AVAMA with three A's, and the colours tell you when you have found some but not all of them. Õ, Ä, Ö and Ü have their own keys and count as their own letters.

You win if you find the word in six tries or fewer, and a share button copies a grid of coloured squares with the date and your score. Sõnuk suits Estonian speakers and learners who want one quick puzzle a day.

How to play Sõnuk

  1. Open Sõnuk and type a five-letter Estonian word on the keyboard.
  2. Press Arva to submit the guess.
  3. Read the colours: the right letter in the right place, a letter in the word but elsewhere, or a letter not in the word.
  4. Use the clues to narrow down the word and find it within six tries.
  5. Press share to copy your result for the day.

Tips

  • Watch for repeated letters: Estonian words often repeat vowels, as in the rules example AVAMA.
  • Treat Õ, Ä, Ö and Ü as separate letters from O, A and U.
  • Long double vowels and consonants (aa, ee, tt, kk) are common, so test them once single letters are placed.
