Recreate the day's coloured picture with as few overlapping ink stamps as you can, thinking backwards from the top layer.

Every day: One picture a day, the same for every player: a small grid of coloured cells to recreate with ink stamps that cover whatever is under them, in as few stamps as possible against a par. 5x5 with 3 stamps and par 3 on Monday, up to 7x7 with 5 stamps and par 8 on Sunday. New puzzle: Midnight, local time.

Overstamp Daily #10: today's small picture of red, orange and yellow cells, an empty 6x6 board with striped blank cells, 0 of par 6, and four shaped ink stamps

Overstamp is a daily stamp puzzle from Dayzle. A small picture of coloured cells shows the goal, and you press shaped ink stamps onto a board, each one covering what was underneath, to rebuild it with as few stamps as possible.

About Overstamp (Dayzle)

Overstamp is one of the daily games on Dayzle, a site of original puzzles by TLL Studios. Each day it shows a small grid picture of coloured cells, the same for everyone, and a larger empty board where you rebuild it. Below the board sit a few stamps, each a shape of cells in one ink, like an L, a T or a bar.

Picking a stamp and tapping the board paints its cells in that ink, and a later stamp covers whatever was under it. An outline shows where a stamp will land before you press it. Stamps turn 90 degrees at a time but never flip over, so an L and a J are different stamps, and each can be used as often as you like. Some inks come with two stamps of different shapes. Striped cells are blank in the picture and can never be inked, so no stamp may touch one or stick out of the board.

Ink cannot be wiped off, but undo and starting over are free; only the stamps in your final picture count. A counter shows your stamps against par, the fewest possible. Matching par gives three stars and ends the game by itself, par plus one gives two stars, and more gives one. The way to par is to think backwards: whatever stamp is whole on top went on last, so peel it off in your head and repeat.

The week gets harder: Monday and Tuesday use a 5 by 5 board with three stamps, Wednesday to Saturday 6 by 6 with four or five, and Sunday 7 by 7 with five. Inks rise from two to four, and par from 3 to 8. A colour-blind setting gives each ink its own pattern, and past pictures can be replayed from the archive.

How to play Overstamp (Dayzle)

  1. Open Overstamp on dayzle.app and study today's picture in the small grid at the top.
  2. Pick a stamp, turn it with the rotate button if needed, and check the outline on the board.
  3. Tap to press it: its cells take its ink and cover anything underneath.
  4. Keep stamping until the board matches the picture; undo and restart are free.
  5. Aim to match par for three stars, then share your stars and stamp count.

Tips

  • Think backwards: a shape that shows whole in the picture was stamped last, so place it after the stamps it covers.
  • Start where the striped cells leave a stamp only one way to fit on its own colour.
  • Reuse big stamps: pressing a large one twice often beats several small ones.
  • Remember stamps rotate but never flip, so check which way an L-shaped stamp actually faces.

Questions

What is par in Overstamp?

The fewest stamps that can recreate the day's picture. Matching it earns three stars and ends the puzzle.

Can I undo a stamp?

Yes. Undo and starting over are free; only the stamps in your final picture count.

Can stamps be flipped?

No. They turn 90 degrees at a time but never flip, so an L and a J are different stamps.

Is Overstamp free?

Yes. It runs in the browser with no ads or paid options seen, and past pictures are free to play.
