Omitten is a free daily word puzzle where one word has been removed from a set of sentences. You see one sentence at a time and try to name the word that fits all of them, losing points with each extra sentence you need. A new puzzle appears every day at midnight UTC.

About Omitten

Omitten is a small daily guessing game about context. A single word has been omitted from several sentences, and the puzzle is to work out which word fills every gap. The same puzzle is used by every player that day, and a new one appears at midnight UTC.

You start with one sentence, worth 100 points. Type a guess and submit it: if you are right the game ends with your points; if you are wrong you move on to the next sentence automatically. You can also skip ahead without guessing. Each move to a new sentence, by a wrong guess or a skip, costs 25 points.

After four sentences you reach your last chance, and a wrong answer then ends the day with zero points. The game tracks your streak in the browser, and a free account keeps it across devices.

Omitten suits players who like fill-in-the-blank puzzles and spotting how one word can work in very different sentences. It takes a couple of minutes a day.

How to play Omitten

  1. Open omitten.com and read the first sentence with its missing word.
  2. Type the word you think fits and press Submit.
  3. If you are wrong, or choose to skip, read the next sentence, which costs 25 points.
  4. Find a word that fits every sentence shown so far.
  5. Answer correctly before your last chance runs out to keep your streak.

Tips

  • Look for words with several meanings; the sentences often use the word in different senses.
  • Skipping costs the same as a wrong guess, so guess when you have a real candidate.
  • On the last sentence, check your word fits every earlier one before submitting.
