Longhand
Grow one English word outward, chunk by chunk, from a daily pile of prefixes, roots and endings.
Every day: One numbered set of seven word chunks per day (prefixes, roots and endings), picked from a fixed list by the day count since 17 September 2026, so everyone builds from the same pile and chases the same longest word. New puzzle: At local midnight; an open tab reloads itself when the date changes.

Longhand is a small daily word game by Adam Burt. You get seven chunks such as port, im, ant and ly, start with one, and add chunks to the front or back so that every step is a real word, aiming for the longest word the pile can make.
About Longhand
Longhand is a browser word game made by Adam Burt and published on itch.io in September 2026. Each day gives you seven chunks: prefixes, roots and endings. You drag one into the box to start, then add chunks to the front or the back, and every step has to be a real word, as in organ, organisation, organisational.
The twist is commitment. Anything that does not fit is refused, but once a chunk lands it stays, so taking an obvious short word banks a safe score and may cut you off from the long one. Every day has a perfect word, the longest the chunks can make.
The puzzle number counts the days since the game started, and the chunks come from a fixed list, so all players share the same pile. Any word keeps your streak going, but opening on a chunk that has no partner ends it. There are no accounts, ads or installs.
It suits players who like word roots and suffixes and want a puzzle that takes a couple of minutes.
How to play Longhand
- Open Longhand on itch.io and look at the day's seven chunks.
- Drag one chunk into the box to start your word.
- Add chunks to the front or back; each step must be a real word, and placed chunks cannot be removed.
- Stop when nothing more fits and see how your word compares with the day's perfect word.

Tips
- Look for the root first: chunks like port or part can take both a prefix and several endings.
- Before committing to a short word, check whether an ending such as ment or al could follow.
- Opening on a chunk with no partner ends your streak, so start with something that clearly combines.
