Letra a Mais is a daily Portuguese anagram game from Público. You rearrange the letters to find the word, knowing one letter is surplus and belongs in the final box. Five hints show related words, and you start with ten points.

About Letra a Mais (Público)

Letra a Mais (One Letter Too Many) is a daily word game on the Público newspaper's games page, in Portuguese.

Each day you get a set of letters. You arrange them to spell the right word, but one letter does not belong: it must be placed in the last square. Working out which letter is the odd one out is part of the puzzle.

You start with ten points and lose one for every hint used or wrong word tried. There are five hints, each showing a related word (not necessarily a synonym). Once the hints run out you can reveal the answer or keep trying.

Each puzzle is dated and earlier ones are in the archive. Público keeps its daily games for registered readers: a free account is enough, and the page asks you to register or sign in before you play.

It suits Portuguese speakers who like anagrams and a short daily challenge.

How to play Letra a Mais (Público)

  1. Register or sign in to Público for free, then open the game.
  2. Look at the day's letters.
  3. Arrange them to spell the hidden word.
  4. Put the one extra letter in the last square.
  5. Use a hint for a related word if you are stuck, at the cost of a point.

Tips

  • Spot unusual letters first: the extra one is often the hardest to fit.
  • Hints give related words, so think of the theme rather than a direct synonym.
