Forgotten Footballer is the lead puzzle on FootyIQ, a site of daily football games for Premier League fans. Each day's puzzle has its own date and the same mystery player for every visitor, often someone half-remembered from a past season rather than a current star.

The player's photo starts heavily blurred. You can press to reduce the blur, take hints from a separate counter, or search for a player and submit a guess straight away. The game shows the guesses and hints you have left, ten of each at the start, and a timer of how long you have taken. Run out of guesses, or give up, and the player is revealed.

FootyIQ sets Forgotten Footballer beside its other dailies, Footle, Footy Grid, The Link and The Ladder, and every one of them feeds a Footy IQ rating between 50 and 200 that rises when you play well. How to play Forgotten Footballer

1. Open Forgotten Footballer and look at the blurred photo of the day's player.
2. Press the photo to reduce the blur, or use a hint, if you need more to go on.
3. Search for a player by name, select him and press Submit Guess.
4. Keep guessing until you name him or run out of guesses.
5. Share your result and move on to FootyIQ's other daily games.

Tips

• Read the shirt colours in the blurred photo first; they narrow down the club.
• Think of players from past Premier League seasons, not only current squads.
• Every unused guess and hint helps your score, so try a guess before sharpening the photo all the way.
