Name one valid answer to each of eight trivia prompts, and score more for the less obvious ones.

Every day: Eight open-answer trivia prompts a day, the same for everyone (on Wed 7 Oct 2026 they began with a member of the Simpson family and a main character from Friends); give one valid answer to each within 25 seconds, and less obvious answers score more. New puzzle: Midnight, Pacific time (America/Los_Angeles).

Clue Morning, the site's seven daily games

Deep Cut round 1 of 8, 0:10 left: the prompt Name a member of the immediate Simpson family, an answer box and Submit button over a pixel-art archive

Deep Cut is Clue Morning's daily rarity trivia game. Everyone gets the same eight open-answer prompts, such as naming a country in Central America, and you have 25 seconds to give one valid answer to each. Familiar answers still count, but less obvious ones score up to 100 points and take your diver deeper.

About Deep Cut (Clue Morning)

Deep Cut is one of the seven short daily games on Clue Morning, a small browser site whose set also includes a word ladder, a hidden-word grid, a four-group sort, a letter trail, a three-clue link and the push-your-luck quiz Last Call.

Each day has eight prompts with many correct answers, for example a member of the immediate Simpson family, one of the first ten prime numbers, a country that borders Germany or one of the twelve people who have walked on the Moon. You type one answer and submit it. A wrong or unrecognised answer does not end the prompt; you can edit it or try another while the 25-second clock keeps running.

Scoring is about rarity rather than right or wrong. Every accepted answer earns between 30 and 100 points, and the site ranks the accepted answers for each prompt in its own editorial order, so the score is fixed the moment you answer. A common answer (30 to 59) drops you one floor through a pixel-art archive, an uncommon one (60 to 84) two floors and a rare one (85 to 100) three, for a maximum of 800 points over the set. When you finish, a recap shows the range of answers for each prompt.

The prompts change at midnight Pacific time and are the same for every player, so scores can be compared on the site's leaderboard, where Deep Cut counts toward the day's seven-game total. The daily set is free in the browser with no account; a paid Unlimited option adds extra Deep Cut sets that do not touch the daily score.

How to play Deep Cut (Clue Morning)

  1. Open Deep Cut on Clue Morning and press Start; the first of the day's eight prompts appears with a 25-second clock.
  2. Type one answer that fits the prompt and submit it; if it is not accepted, edit it or try another before time runs out.
  3. An accepted answer scores 30 to 100 points by how uncommon it is, and moves you down one to three floors.
  4. Play all eight prompts; your total, out of 800, goes to the daily leaderboard, and the recap shows the other answers.

Tips

  • Lock in a safe answer if nothing rare comes to mind within ten seconds or so; a common answer scores at least 30, a timeout scores nothing.
  • On closed lists, such as Germany's neighbours or the Moonwalkers, skip the famous first name and go for one most people forget.
  • Spell names in full; a misspelt answer is not accepted, but you can fix it and resubmit while the clock runs.
