Crowdpleaser Words with seven coloured judges, ticks and crosses under the typed word pattern, and notes on two rules

Crowdpleaser Words is a daily word game about hidden rules. Seven judges each care about one property of a word, such as its length, its vowels or consonants, or how varied its letters are, and they show a tick or a cross as you type. Find a word that wins over all of them at once.

About Crowdpleaser Words

Crowdpleaser Words is a small browser game by graham, published on itch.io. Its author describes it as an attempt to turn Alphabet Soup for Picky Eaters, a game from the Confounding Calendar 2024 event, into something that can be played daily. The screen shows a row of seven coloured judges, each with a tick or a cross underneath.

Each judge has one rule about the word you type. It might be about length, about whether the vowel count is odd or even, about consonants, or about the variety of letters. The judges react to every letter you type, so you can test ideas by adding and removing letters and watching which ticks change. As you narrow down a rule, the game lets you label it. When every judge shows a tick for a real word, you win.

Everyone gets the same set of rules and goal words each day, and the day turns over at midnight Pacific Time, so you can compare results with friends. The author makes sure each day's rules allow several possible words. The game runs on a free server, so the first load can take a minute if nobody has played recently. It suits players who like deduction puzzles where you have to discover the rules as well as the answer.

How to play Crowdpleaser Words

  1. Press Start Game to see the day's seven judges.
  2. Type letters and watch each judge switch between a tick and a cross.
  3. Work out what each judge cares about: length, vowels, consonants, letter variety and so on.
  4. Note the rules you have figured out next to each judge.
  5. Find one real word that gets a tick from all seven judges at once.

Tips

  • Type one letter at a time; the change after each letter is the best clue to a rule.
  • Test vowels and consonants separately to split the vowel rules from the others.
  • Try the same word with one letter repeated to check for rules about letter variety.
  • Once you know the rules, list them and build a word that meets them, rather than guessing whole words.
