CourseGuessr

CourseGuessr title card: a flagged golf green beside the line 'Dropped on a golf course somewhere in the world. Find it on the map.'

CourseGuessr drops you over a golf course seen in satellite imagery and asks you to find it on a world map. The daily round has five courses, the same for everyone, each worth up to 5,000 points depending on how close your pin lands. Your total goes on a daily leaderboard and plays build a streak.

About CourseGuessr

CourseGuessr is a map guessing game built around golf courses. Each round shows a satellite view of one course, with its fairways, greens, bunkers and whatever surrounds them: coastline, desert, forest, housing or farmland. You place a pin on a separate world map where you think the course is, and the game shows how far off you were.

The daily game is five rounds, drawn from a pool of more than 15,000 courses and shared by every player that day. A pin within half a kilometre of the course earns the full 5,000 points, and the score falls away the further out you land, so a guess on the right continent still counts for something. At the end you get a row of coloured squares to share, a place on the daily leaderboard under a name you choose, and a streak count for playing on consecutive days.

Outside the daily, you can play extra rounds filtered by kind of course (famous courses, championship and tour venues, private clubs) or by region and country, and in that free play the guess map can open already zoomed to the right continent. Those extra games are limited to five a month on the free plan, with more for inviting a friend, while a Pro plan (monthly, yearly or lifetime) removes the limit. The daily and challenges sent between friends stay free, and no account is needed to play; signing in by email only keeps your games across devices.

It suits golfers who know their courses by their layout, and players of satellite and map guessing games who like reading terrain, climate and coastline for clues.

How to play CourseGuessr

  1. Open courseguessr.com and start the daily round.
  2. Study the satellite view of the golf course: pan and zoom to look at the terrain, the buildings and the coastline around it.
  3. Place your pin on the world map where you think the course is, and submit it.
  4. See the course's name, the distance to your pin and your points for the round, out of 5,000.
  5. Play all five rounds, then share your result, challenge a friend or check the daily leaderboard.

Tips

  • Look past the course itself: palm trees, desert scrub, snow, links dunes or dense pine forest narrow down the climate quickly.
  • Zoom out from the course to find a coastline, a river or a town grid; these place it far better than the fairways do.
  • When unsure, pin in the middle of the most likely region: the score drops gradually with distance, so a central guess loses less than a wrong corner.

Questions

Is CourseGuessr free?

The daily round and friends' challenges are always free and need no account. Extra games outside the daily are limited to five a month on the free plan; a Pro plan, billed monthly, yearly or once for life, makes them unlimited.

How is a round scored?

Each round is worth up to 5,000 points. A pin within half a kilometre of the course gets the full score, and it falls off with the distance between your pin and the course, so a daily game is out of 25,000.

When does the daily change?

The daily number follows your device's date, so a new set of five courses is there after midnight where you are.
