A Costcodle game showing a loaf of Dave's Killer Bread, six empty guess rows and a price box

Costcodle is a daily price guessing game. Each day it shows one food product sold at Costco, and you type what you think it costs. Arrows tell you to go higher or lower and a colour tells you whether you are within 25 percent; land within 5 percent of the real price in six guesses to win.

About Costcodle

Costcodle is a small web game made by a developer who goes by Kerm, who put it online in September 2023 and published its code on GitHub. The site thanks Wordle and the trade guessing game Tradle for the idea. Prices and product photos come from the Costco Food Database, a fan site that tracks what is on the shelves.

Each puzzle is a single product: a picture, a name and a pack size, such as a five pound bag of chicken nuggets or a twin pack of bread. You type a price in dollars and submit. If you are off, the game shows an up or down arrow and colours the guess: red if you are more than 25 percent away, yellow if you are within 25 percent. A guess within 5 percent of the real price wins.

That makes it a short game of higher or lower with a memory test on top. Regular Costco shoppers will have a feel for what a bulk pack of salmon or a tray of muffins costs; everyone else can still close in by halving the gap with each guess. The game keeps your win rate, streak and how many guesses you usually need, and you can copy a spoiler-free emoji grid to share.

Costcodle suits people who enjoy The Price Is Right style guessing, warehouse store regulars, and anyone who wants a one-minute puzzle that is not about words.

How to play Costcodle

  1. Open costcodle.com to see today's Costco product, with its name and pack size.
  2. Type your guess for the price in dollars and press Submit.
  3. Read the arrow: up means the real price is higher, down means it is lower.
  4. Check the colour: red means more than 25 percent off, yellow means within 25 percent.
  5. Keep adjusting until you are within 5 percent of the price, or until your six guesses are used.

Tips

  • Read the pack size carefully; Costco sells in bulk, so prices are often higher than you would expect at a supermarket.
  • Many Costco prices end in .99 or .49, which can help you settle on a final guess.
  • If your first guess is red, jump a long way; if it turns yellow, make smaller steps.
  • Use halving: pick a price between your highest low guess and lowest high guess.
  • Kirkland Signature products tend to be cheaper than the name brands next to them.
